PULL-A-PART'S RECYCLING LEADERSHIP AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

Pull-A-Part is a nationally recognized leader in end-of-life vehicle (ELV) recycling. Pull-A-Part was born out of a recycling business that was started more than 100 years ago and to this day, our commitment to the environment is unparalleled in our industry.

At Pull-A-Part, it is literally our business to recycle and prevent pollution. We work in lockstep with environmental regulators and related government organizations and often are the first to take the lead in our industry on recycling initiatives.

The methods we use in our recycling operation dramatically reduce the waste generated by automobiles – both during the recycling and salvage processes, but also by removing dangerous or sometimes hazardous materials from the environment that may have otherwise caused unnecessary pollution.

For example, here are a few facts about the impact our recycling efforts have on the environment:

  • Pull-A-Part recycles more than 98% of each end of life vehicle through our salvage and recycling processes.
  • For every 100,000 vehicles Pull-A-Part recycles, 6,000 tons of waste is diverted from landfills – enough waste to fill a line of tractor-trailer trucks 4.5 miles long.
  • Pull-A-Part has removed and recycled more than 1 million mercury switches from cars, preventing contamination of more than 39 billion gallons of ground water – the equivalent of a 6,000-acre lake, 20 feet deep.
  • Each vehicle we recycle conserves nearly 11 million BTUs of energy – enough to light a 60-watt light bulb for nearly six years!
  • Our recycled vehicles produce 21% less ‘shredder residue’ when compared to typical vehicles – which equates to more than 120,000 pounds less landfill waste for every 100,000 cars Pull-A-Part recycles.
  • Each vehicle Pull-A-Part recycles saves the equivalent of about four tons of greenhouse gas emissions (CO2) from entering and potentially harming our atmosphere.

These are just a few examples of how Pull-A-Part’s business helps to impact the environment after we remove vehicles from our yard. This doesn’t include the second life we give to hundreds of thousands of used auto parts consumers reuse in their vehicles. By operating our DIY salvage yards, we are further protecting the environment by reducing the need to manufacture new car parts and extends the life of used cars.
